The person of the year 2019 of the Latvia’s Notariate – Aigars Kaupe
The Notariate of Latvia presented it’s annual award „Notary of the Year” to a sworn notary Aigars Kaupe - for his input in the development of the notarial system, dissemination of values of the notariate and high moral standards. He is highly regarded, both nationally and internationally, for his ability and skills to recognize suspicious transactions in order to prevent inflow of criminal assets into the national economy.
Aigars Kaupe is a sworn notary since 2003. He started his professional carrier as an assistant of sworn notary Valda Vaivare, where he had worked as a consultant before. Aigars Kaupe has a lawyer’s and an architect’s degree. He has master’s degree in law and he has graduated from the Faculty of Architecture and construction with an engineer’s degree. It is interesting, that according to him, legal profession is more creative then the architect’s.
It is possible, that because of his many fights for victories in competitions as a member of track and field athletics team, his fighting spirit and involvement resulted in countless initiatives for the notariate. Since 2008, he is a member of the Council of Sworn Notaries of Latvia (CSNL), representative of Latvia in the General Assembly of International Union of Notaries (UINL), participates in UINL working group on AML/ATF issues, represents the Notariate of Latvia upon meeting with representatives from Moneyval and OECD experts on AML/ATF issues. He is an active participant of the working group, dealing with digital transformation of the notariate.
“Aigars us very responsive and disciplined. He dedicates much of his private time to fulfill his public duties, especially, fostering common understanding between notaries on AML/ATF issues. Common needs of the notariate are priorities to Aigars, dominating over his private needs. He is tolerant and remains professional in emotionally difficult and stressful situations. He has good sense of humour, kindness and positivism, as well as ability to state his arguments clearly. When encountering a problem, Aigars looks for solutions, not for arguments why not to do it. When offering solutions, he takes into account interests of all and bases them on different experiences” says the President of CSNL Janis Skrastins. Who also points out that the story of 2019th „Notary of the Year” is a story about a person, who’s motto is: “If you do something, do it honestly, carefully and precisely.”
Evaluating individual performance of Latvia’s notaries, the title „Notary of the Year” if awarded by the Council of Sworn Notaries of Latvia already for the 13th time. It serves as an acknowledgement not only of the impeccable professional daily work of the notary, but also of his input in the development and popularization of the notarial system. .
Each year employees of the Council of Sworn Notaries of Latvia also nominates its candidate for „Notary of the Year” title, this year it was sworn notary Ilze Pilsetniece, thus demonstrating appreciation for her active participation in the development processes of the profession of a sworn notary, as well as for her courage to be brave and state: “I like it, and I want to do it!”.
